Sergio Martinez vs. Paul Williams II
The much anticipated rematch of WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams is finally locked and ready to fire on Saturday November 20th from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City for a “12-round middleweight” bout. Their first fight was a fight of the year candidate in which Williams won a majority decision of two score cards of (119 to 110) and (115 to 113) and the third judge ruled it a draw (114 to 114).
Although the Punisher won the first fight many fight fans and media scored it a win for Martinez. The fight left everyone in the arena and watching on HBO clamoring for a rematch. The fight will be broadcast on HBO’s World Championship Boxing beginning at 10:00 PM ET/7:00 PM PT.
Williams at age 28 has an impressive record of 37-1 and 27 KO’s. Paul Williams has only fought once this year, a dominating performance over Winky Wright in April, but that was mostly due to Williams wasting time going after Kelly Pavlik. Williams usually has an enormous reach advantage in his contests and this bout will be no different as he sports a six-inch difference over Martinez.
Meanwhile Sergio Martinez is also nicknamed as “Maravilla” and is 34 years old. He is the current WBC Super Welterweight Champion and is an extremely fast and agile fighter. Martinez has the physical attributes of 5 foot 11 inches in height and had the reputation of being unbeaten in 16 matches at the age of 12. He has a record of 44-1-2 and 24 KO’s.
According to a press release from Goossen Tutor Promotions the odds in Las Vegas show that Williams vs Martinez is a pretty dead even bet.
Meaning they both are set at about -$125 with even money coming in for betting on either fighter.
Sergio Martinez vs Paul Williams II Fight Results
Four minutes and 10 seconds into their middleweight title fight at Boardwalk Hall Saturday night, Martinez plowed a powerful left hook into the jaw of Williams, dropping the three-time world champion face-first in a heap on the canvas, knocking him out cold just 1:10 into the second round and ending the fight with sudden ferociousness.
Martinez, the 35-year-old handsome Argentine with the power-packed punch, retained his WBC middleweight title and stunned the crowd of 5,502 that had barely settled into their seats.
Williams (39-2, 27 KOs) fell so hard and so fast that referee Earl Morton did not even count him out. There was no need because he wasn't getting up. It took a minute or two to get Williams to his feet.
