Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez have already waged an epic trilogy consisting of 25 rounds of furious, non-stop betting action. Now, the Mexican warriors will clash for the fourth and final time. Following three epic battles, three-time World Champion Israel Vazquez and two-division World Champion Rafael Marquez will face off in their fourth battle of what is perhaps the greatest boxing trilogy of all-time is scheduled for a 12-round featherweight fight, that will take place May 22, on Showtime from the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Will the fight live up to their previous three, which most consider one of the best of all time? This remains to be seen. For both Marquez and Vazquez, this fight will prove if either fighter has anything left in the tank.
Also, Showtime is paying $1.6 million for the fight and the camps on a 50-50 deal, it was the easily the biggest payday for each fighter.

Rafael Marquez (38-5, 34 KOs), 34, didn't fight for 14 months until returning for a third-round knockout of Jose Francisco Mendoza in Mexico on May 23. Vazquez was badly beat up as well and needed three surgeries on his damaged retina, which led to a 19-month layoff.
The 32-year-old Israel Vazquez is 44-4 with 32 stoppages, returned on Oct. 10 and struggled to a ninth-round knockout of Angel Priolo in Los Angeles.

The first three Vazquez-Marquez junior featherweight championship fights in 2007 and 2008 are considered one of the greatest trilogies in boxing history, with fights II and III each winning fight of the year honors. “El Magnifico” Vazquez (44-4, 33 KO’s) of Huntington Park, Calif., by way of Mexico City, leads Mexico City’s Marquez (38-5, 34 KO’s) in the epic series, 2-1, winning the last two.
In their first match, Rafael Marquez brought his cool, killer instinct to the ring. Marquez stopped Vazquez in the seventh round for the win and became the new owner of the WBC Super Bantamweight Title Belt.
Rafael Marquez vs. Israel Vazquez II Rematch - Vazquez exacted revenge in the rematch on Aug. 4, 2007, with a sixth-round knockout.
The seocond time they met for the rematch, Rafael Marquez was knocked down in the sixth round. A left hook sent him sprawling to the canvas, and even when he got up, his legs had betrayed him. Vazquez never let him have a moment's rest, and after just 1:16 of the session, the referee intervened to stop Marquez taking any more punishment.

In the third bout on March 1, 2008, Vazquez rallied from a fourth-round knockdown to score a 12th-round knockdown that turned out to be the winning margin in a sensational split-decision victory to regain the title.
One judge scored the bout 114-111 to Marquez, another scored it by the same margin to Vazquez, and the third judge gave the bout to Vazquez by a 113-112 margin. Consequently, the fight was rendered a split decision to Vazquez.

Rafael Marquez stopped Israel Vazquez midway through the third round, evening their rivalry at two fights apiece, Saturday night.
Deep cuts over both of Vazquez's eyes forced referee Raul Caiz Jr. to stop the fight at 1:33 of round three. With the victory, Marquez’s professional record improves to 39-5, 35 knockouts, while Vazquez’s professional record drops to 44-5.
