A former Brooklyn resident and former two division world champion Zab Judah (40-6, 27 KO’s) will be fighting for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) light welterweight title against pressure fighter South African Kaizer Mabuza (23-6-3, 14 KO’s) on March 5th at the Prudential Center, in Newark, New Jersey. The title became vacant when Devon Alexander opted not to defend it against IBF mandatory Kaizer Mabuza by taking a fight with Timothy Bradley.

Judah, 33, a former holder of the WBA, WBC and IBF welterweight belts, as well as a former champion with IBF and WBO junior welterweight crowns, Judah won for the fourth straight time since losing to Joshua Clottey in August of 2008 when he ground out November's HBO televised split-decision over 27-year-old Lucas Matthysse (27-1, 25 KOs) of Argentina.

Mabuza's most recent triumph was February's sixth-round stoppage of Kendall Holt (25-4, 13 KOs), the man against whom WBO king Tim Bradley (26-0, 11 KOs) had to rise from the canvas to dethrone as WBO champ in April of 2009. Mabuza has won eight straight times, with six of them being by knockout, during that run.

The idea all along was for Zab Judah to wait patiently for the eighth round, conserving his energy for a late run at another world title. It turns out he didn't even need the eighth round. The former undisputed welterweight champion knocked out Kaizer Mabuza early in the seventh Saturday night, regaining the IBF junior welterweight title he first held more than a decade ago.
