  • WBO featherweight title
  • Saturday, Nov 6, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

The WBO Featherweight title fight will now be on November 6, still at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. This will be Lopez's 2nd WBO title defense. The Lopez vs Marquez fight card is being promoted by Bob Arum of Top Rank and Gary Shaw of Gary Shaw Productions and will be nationally televised on Showtime.

Fast-rising WBO Featherweight champion defends his title against former champion and pound-for-pound entrant Rafael Marquez in Las Vegas on November 6. Lopez has a savvy technical prowess about him and an efficient offense from behind his southpaw stance. Lopez has shown to be one of the more dynamic offensive forces in the game, as 26 knockouts in 29 fights will attest.

While Marquez’ attack is potent and deadly. Marquez has been one of the finer lower-weight fighters of the past decade, but at 35, his time is running out and is out of his natural weight class in meeting Lopez at 126 pounds.

Lopez (29-0, 26 KOs), of Caguas, Puerto Rico, will be making his second defense of the featherweight title he captured in January. He previously held the WBO junior featherweight crown during a two-year reign which included five successful title defenses, four by knockout.

Marquez (39-5, 35 KOs), of México City, has held the IBF bantamweight and WBC super bantamweight titles. He'll be looking to join his brother Juan Manuel as the only brothers to win world titles in three different divisions. Marquez returns to the ring after knocking out arch rival Israel Vasquez in the third round of their May 22 championship bout to even up their historic series at 2-2.

Lopez vs Marquez Results

WBO world featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez defended his title by stopping Rafael Marquez on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Marquez (39-6, 35 KOs), of Mexico, was unable to come out for the ninth round after unofficially losing seven of the eight rounds to Lopez (29-0, 26 KOs), of Puerto Rico, during a bout scheduled for 12 rounds.

Lopez was the pursuer for the majority of the fifth through eighth rounds. He was especially dominant in the seventh round, when Marquez was unable to return any of his many power punches.

Lopez made his second defense of the featherweight title he won in January. Marquez has held the IBF bantamweight and WBC super bantamweight titles.
