Muirfield Village golf course
Muirfield Village is a tough golf course and it is as challenging as any in the world. The fairways may be wide, but you have to hit it to the correct side to get a good angle at the pin. Plus, the greens are really tough. The first tournament was played in 1976, and some consider The Memorial the fifth PGA major. Muirfield Village has been consistently ranked in the Top 20 in the United States and Top 50 in the world since it opened. Voted the No. 1 course in golf-rich Ohio.
2011 Memorial Golf Tournament Winner
Earlier in the week, Steve Stricker was surprised and a bit thrown to learn he had never posted a top-10 finish in 11 previous trips to Muirfield Village for theMemorial Tournament. While he acknowledged he had never been a contender in Jack Nicklaus' annual event, he thought he at least had one top-10 finish somewhere on his results page. With a front-nine 30 and three vital par saves from nasty bunkers on the 12th, 16th and 17th holes, the last two after a rain delay of 2 hours, 34 minutes, Stricker polished off the 10th win of his career with a final-round 68 to top Matt Kuchar (65) and Brandt Jobe (65) by one shot. By finishing at 16-under 272, Stricker earned his sixth win since the start of the 2009 season and moved to No. 4 in the world, becoming the highest-ranked American for the first time in his career.
2010 Memorial Golf Tournament Winner
After becoming the 10th player in his 20s to win this season on the PGA Tour with his victory Sunday in the Memorial Tournament, Justin Rose made it clear that he no longer views himself as a young kid. He did, after all, turn pro at 17 — 12 years ago. "I have always been described as young and a young gun and this and that, but I'm now getting to the point where I'm certainly not," Rose said after firing a final-round 66 in windy conditions to win by three shots. "Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, these guys are the true young guns out here. I think golf's in great hands with those two and others. In beating back a slew of 20-somethings at Muirfield Village Golf Club, Rose earned his seventh worldwide victory but first on the PGA Tour. Fowler, 21, finished three shots behind Rose in solo second. Ricky Barnes, 29, finished in a tie for third.
In 2009, Woods climbed out of a four-way tie with a 7-under 65 to win the Memorial Tournament on Sunday. It was a record fourth time he had won the event created by his idol and measuring stick, Jack Nicklaus. The world's number one golfer Tiger Woods came from behind with some spectacular shots, Woods made seven birdies, an eagle and two bogeys and won for the second time this year since coming back from knee surgery.
