2011 Daytona 500 Winner
 No longer will fans look at the starting grid and wonder, "Who the heck is Trevor Bayne?" The 20-year old made history on Sunday afternoon, conserving his fuel just long enough to hold off Carl Edwards and capture the 53rd running of the Daytona 500. Driving for the legendary Wood Brothers, Bayne became the youngest Dayton 500 winner in history and brought the Wood Brothers No. 21 to Victory Lane for the first time since 2001. Bayne barely got to the checkered flags, having been told by his crew to conserve fuel during the yellow flag that set up a green-white-checkered finish. The part-time driver got a push from Bobby Labonte in the closing laps, helping him hold off Edwards by 0.118 second.
McMurray Wings 2010 Daytona 500
 NASCAR's "have-at-it, boys" strategy of loosening rules to tighten competition succeeded Sunday, producing a record 21 leaders, a wild overtime finish and a surprise Daytona 500 winner. But the latest attempt to inject juice into a sport suffering from four consecutive seasons of sagging TV ratings and attendance also hit a bump — or in this case a gaping pothole in Turn 2 whose repair caused long breaks in the action during the Sprint Cup Series' marquee event. In one of the most bizarre but intriguing season openers in recent memory, Jamie McMurray passed Greg Biffle with one lap remaining and parried a charge by Dale Earnhardt Jr. to win in his first race since returning to Earnhardt Ganassi Racing. The race concluded after 208 laps — eight more than the scheduled distance because of a new rule that mandated three attempts at a green-white-checkered finish.

 Matt Kenseth won the 2009 Daytona 500 on Sunday in a race that was called early due to rain. The race was called after 152 laps with 48 laps remaining. Kyle Busch had led most of the day before being taken out by Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a multi-car crash late in the race.
Ryan Newman wins Daytona 500
 Ryan Newman Wins the 50th Running of Daytona 500, Giving Roger Penske Long-Awaited 500 Win. Roger Penske picked up his elusive Daytona 500 victory, a $1 million bonus and a new challenge pairing the race he just conquered with the one that means the most to him. The driver with the 81-race winless streak took NASCAR's biggest prize. He outran a pack that included Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr., all of whom had thousands of supporters wearing their T-shirts and caps. The 30-year-old Newman had 11 wins before Sunday, but there weren't many people wearing anything with No. 12 on it.
