This year the BMW once again hosts one of golf's most exciting tournaments, where the top 70 players in the world will compete in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. The third of four play-off tournaments will take place from 15th to 18th September at the Cog Hill Golf & Country Club, near Chicago. The BMW Championship itself will go on a rotation of courses in the Upper Midwest, including Cog Hill, Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, and Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, will host the 2014 BMW Championship, tournament.
The PGA Tour BMW Championship was a tournament traditionally known as the Western Open. BMW Championship took over sponsorship in 2007, when the event also became one of the four FedEx Cup "playoff" tournaments. This tournament is the oldest "regular" event on the PGA Tour, dating to 1899; only the majors U.S. Open and British Open are older.
Nationally ranked since it opened in 1964, Course #4 has acquired the nickname, "DUBSDREAD."The privately owned (but open to the public) courses were designed by Joe Lee and Dick Wilson. A natural style championship golf course, DUBSDREAD places a demand on shot making by providing tight landing areas combined with heavily bunkered, large undulating greens.
Nestled in the Des Plaines River Valley, Cog Hill Golf Club has been luring avid golfers since 1927. This privately-owned golf complex is located in a lovely rural setting less than 30 miles southwest of Chicago. The public is invited to play on one of four 18-hole regulation golf courses, including the world-famous Course #4, "DUBSDREAD."
The BMW Championship golf odds should be interesting, limited to the top 70 FedEx Cup point leaders. The top 30 point leaders at the end of the BMW Championship go on to The Tour Championship where the FedEx Cup is awarded to the top player.
The golf betting favorite, as usual, will be Tiger Woods but Mickelson is playing better and will get a lot of play on the golf odds board. Other players that should make an impact in golf betting for the week are Rory Sabbatini and perhaps Steve Stricker. Tiger Woods won 2 Westerns at Cog Hill, and Nick Price won back to back in '93 and '94.

 After being on the wrong end of two major Sunday haymakers earlier this year, Johnson closed with a birdie from two feet on the 71st hole and a solid two-putt par from 40 feet on the final hole at Cog Hill on Sunday to win the BMW Championship, the third leg of the FedExCup playoffs.
Johnson, who blew a three-shot lead in the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach with a final-round 82, and was knocked out of a playoff in the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits with a controversial two-stroke penalty on the final hole, fired a final-round 69 to finish at 9-under-par 275, one shot ahead of Paul Casey. Johnson was playing in the final group for the fourth time since June.

 The world's No. 1 golfer returned to one of his favorite playgrounds after a one-year hiatus and reclaimed it as his own, running away with the BMW Championship at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club. Woods, who pulled away from the field Saturday with a course-record 9-under-par 62, coasted to a 3-under 68 Sunday to finish at 19-under 265 — eight strokes ahead of Jim Furyk and Marc Leishman.
He regained the top spot in the FedExCup standings and will lead the 30 qualifiers into the final event, the Sept. 24-27 Tour Championship in Atlanta. And he feels he is playing his best golf of the season, saying he has hit the ball well since the British Open and now his putts are falling.

After several close calls over the first couple years of his career, Camilo Villegas earned PGA Tour victory No. 1 by two strokes over Dudley Hart. Villegas closed with a 68 for a 15-under, 265 total.
