Vic Darchinyan and Jorge Arce, clash on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING (SHOWTIME, 9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast).

Darchinyan’s newly acquired 115-pound International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Association (WBA) world titles will be on the line.

The main fight card will open with DeMarco (19-1-1, 13 KOs), of Tijuana, Mexico, risking his three-year, 13-bout unbeaten streak and Top-10 rating in a career-defining fight against the battle-tested Raiymkulov (27-1-1, 15 KOs), from Las Vegas, Nev., by way of Kyrgyzstan, who is enjoying his own two-year winning streak.

Jorge “Mexican Cowboy” Arce Vs. Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan - Vic Darchinyan will present one of the strongest test to Arce's career to date.

Jorge Arce (54-4-1) is an exciting fighter and even a minor personality in Mexican popular culture. He is a colorful character whose horse riding and cowboy hat antics are exactly the kind of color boxing needs at the lighter of boxing divisions.

Arce has faced unorthodox Australian punchers before and defeated them. In 2005, Arce twice faced Hussein Hussein, Jorge Arce was able to walk through Hussein's punches. Both fighters trade power punches, though Arce seemed to have the confidence that he could outlast Hussien. The bout ended in the 10th-round via technical knockout in Arce's favor. The same strategy is unlikely to succeed against a big puncher like Vic Darchinyan.

As for the Australian-Armenian Darchinyan's career is peaking.

Vic Darchinyan last fight was in perfect form in besting Cristian Mijares for the IBF, WBC, and WBA superflyweight (112 lb.) titles. Using his speed and awkward style, Darchinyan (31-1-1) managed to knock out Mijares via ninth round knockout.

The win over the well-regarded Cristian Mijares (36-3-2) proved yet again that Vic Darchinyan is the strongest puncher in any division below bantamweight. Mijares also holds a recent win over Jorge Arce, so the manner in which Darchinyan dealt with Mijares does not speak well to Jorge's chances.

Darchinyan, Australia's "Raging Bull," followed his punishing upset of Cristian Mijares in November with this utter smashing of Arce, who was game to the end and showed huge heart but simply could not hang with the champ.

Darchinyan, 33, clearly the best 115-pounder in the world, dominated the entertaining slugfest, winning every round but one on all three scorecards (two judges gave Arce the third and one the fourth) before the fight was stopped at the end of the 11th round because Arce had taken tremendous punishment and was bleeding from cuts around both eyes.

Darchinyan said afterward that he wanted to knock Arce cold, and Arce was upset that he wasn't allowed to come out for the 12th round to try for a miracle knockout.
