Championship Boxing Morales Pacquiao
Pacquiao vs Morales III
Three-division world champions MANNY “PAC MAN” PACQUIAO and ERIK “EL TERRIBLE” MORALES will get it on for the third time to determine who really is the best man inside the ring. Pacquiao and Morales each own a victory over the other in their two previous fights.
Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Wynn Las Vegas, Pacquiao-Morales III will be a 12-round super featherweight bout, taking place Saturday, November 18, from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV, and broadcast live on HBO Pay-Per-View.
The GenSan native Pacquiao will enter the squared circle eyeing no less than his third victory this year. He won a 12–round unanimous decision over former world champion Oscar Larios on July 1 at the sold–out Araneta Coliseum in the Philippines, the same arena that hosted the classic Ali–Frazier III "Thrilla in Manila."
Reach and Weight: Morales stands 5’8” and has a 72”reach and uses it well. Pacquiao is 5’6” with a 67”reach. The bout was to be fought at 130 pounds, but Morales will likely have some difficulty making that weight while Manny will be comfortable.
pHowever, for some reason, Pacquiao is going to allow Morales to weigh as much as 132 lbs instead of the agreed 130lb limit. This unexpected allowance can be dangerous for Pacquiao. Erik has the edge in reach, and now the weight issue has been neutralized. Therefore, the advantage here goes to Morales.
Pacquiao has 43 fights under his belt (39-2-2, with 31 ko's). Manny has the edge in ko percentage, but of more significance, he destroyed Morales in January 2006 by delivering a spectacular performance culminating in a devastating stoppage in the 10th round. Pacquiao was the first to ever stop Morales. Pacquiao has gone 16-1-2 in his last 19 bouts with 15 of his victories coming by knockout, including a sensational stoppage of world champion Marco Antonio Barrera.
For Erik Morales, 48-4 (34 KO), he is no stranger to being written off as a dominant fighter. More than once in his career, Morales had been labeled as a shot fighter, a guy who had bitten off more than he can cumulatively chew. Each time he had been discredited by the boxing public, he came back to prove himself once again as a living legend to be remembered by boxing fans.
Both have high boxers IQ's though Manny can at time lose focus and Erik can be taken off his game by his willingness to engage in unnecessary wars.
The "The Grand Finale" HBO pay–per–view fight extravaganza, to be held at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, a city known for its sports gamblers and rich with boxing fans, promises to be a blockbuster and a knock out of a fight between perhaps two of the most exciting boxers of our time.
